Structures

A Mechanical subteam designing the pod's backbone - a modular press-fit chassis that cut mass by 62%, reduced length by 32%, and assembles in under 30 minutes - plus electronics enclosures and the aeroshell.

The Structures subteam owns the pod's structural platform: chassis, electronics enclosures, and aeroshell. This year we redesigned the SQ5 chassis as a press-fit system using 1" x 1" aluminum tubes and PA6-GF30 connectors, dropping weight from 65 to 25 lb and shrinking length from 9 to 6.1 ft.

A two-layer rectangular prism separates noisy power hardware from sensitive electronics with a steel shield for EMI control, and the full chassis assembles quickly with simple tools. We partner with Electrical to mount and protect every subsystem across the layers.
